Interesting observation with CPU cooling

I have a couple of CF-30's (K and F models) and noticed that when they are sitting on my lap (bare legs) they get scorching hot but only in specific spots along the bottom plate. Figuring that there might be a way to slightly improve the heat transfer so the entire bottom plate heats up and CPU temperature decreases I started to mess around with the heat transfer compound on the bottom plate where it attaches to the CPU chip.

Hello all...

I am writing this Sticky because it seems that we are getting more and more questions about drivers and recovery disks. As Cap.Dogfish said to me, "we sometimes sail a little closer to the wind with respect to copyright and piracy issues" because Toughbook software can be hard to come by and difficult to find.

There are many stickies here that tell where to find drivers on Panasonic websites around the world as well as how to install them. I will try to consolidate these...

Hi,

I currently have a CF-31 MK1 with a i5-540M.

Is the cpu upgradable or soldered to the board?

Max ram support?

If it use the Socket G1, will it support a higher dual core (i7-640M or even a quad core Core i7-940XM?)

EDIT: anyone with service manual? Can't find any for the CF-31 , i've seen one with part list only.

Our organization purchased four of the CF-54 with gloved multi-touch units, after many years of using CF-29/30/31's. We are starting to seriously regret this purchase.

We have significant issues with the touch screens behaving erratically. After an unspecified, and apparently random, period of use it is as if there is something phantom touching the screen - you can see a round circle randomly appear somewhere on the screen as if something is touching it, this happens repeatedly, and the...

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY CF-19 PANASONIC; WHEN I STAR IT, THE DISPLAY SHOWS A LEGEND THAT SAYS NLTDR IS MISSING. I DID TRY TO RE BOOT IT WITH THE RECOVERY CD, BUT IT DID NOT WORK. I HAD TO USE A EXTERNAL CD READER TO DO THAT, AND THAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM, CAUSE AT THE END OF TRYING TO RE BOOT IT IT SAY "IT IS NOT SUPPORTED". DOES ANYBODY CAN HELP ME WITH THIS, PLEASE.

CF-53 Ridges on Palm Rest

I've noticed while shopping for CF-53s that some of them have ridges on the palm rest like this: [​IMG]

Whereas others have a smooth palmrest like this:

Does anyone know the significance of this? The smooth ones seem to be more common.

I now have a spare Chicklet Emissive / Backlit LED keyboard to play with. I wondered if the DC-DC converter modification had actually been attempted by anyone?

I believe the standard voltage output is 5V, and was wondering what I could safely increase that too?

The fz-a1 is a nice bit of kit but it's limitations are getting the better of me and I'm thinking of getting rid of it and going back to an actual normal computer probably a CF19 which will be a lot bigger and heavier in my work bag but I can't keep using a device that regularly fritzes, locks up, and requires cold-starting to get it working again in the middle of what I'm doing!

The toughpad is wonderfully rugged and Panasonic has really arsed-up by dropping the large-screen tablet format...

Trying to do some measurements including fan speed on a CF-51 MK3 but
speedfan doesn't seem to report any fan speeds. Have users found the best
fan utility for toughbooks?

Anyone know of a utility for measuring internal temps, especially the Northbridge?

Hello,
i bougth one CF-3140193CE, when i open the memory box i saw one "EM 7305" 4g/gps card, with no cables connected to the card. Near to the card there are 2 cables (one brown, and one grey), both with small connectrs and the end. Those cables are not connected to nothing. Should i connect one or the 2 cables to receive gps signals? Where shouls i connect (gps, aux, main)?

Okay.... Here it is! I was debating starting this thread the other day but now that someone has specifically asked for it.... I decided to go ahead and start one.

This thread is for general discussion and light problems/comments/questions. Anything "heavy-duty" should probably have its own thread started to make the search function a little easier.

So.... I'll start it off! My CF-30 (which I love!) is a model CF-30CCS92BM. It is pretty much where I want it... A 1.66Ghz duo-core processor...

Ok... I just got the T-Mobile Pre-Paid "Free Data for Life" plan. Basically, you get 200MB of data for free, and you can pre-pay for more, if you need it, buy by the day, week or month, at any time. Check with T-Mo for rates. Yes, I know that T-Mo has a smaller footprint, but it still bigger then the one I have have now, which is strictly limited to Wi-Fi!

But if you need/use less then 200 MB, again, that is free! Now, I know that is pretty much...

a while back i mentioned to shawn about the pages being screwed up at times , and asked him if it was just me .
he replied that he had been having some issues as well .
i just had the format problem happen ... before that all was ok ...

Hey all-
I'm new to the forum, but after reading through some of the other posts I was hoping you guys might be able to help.

I have a fleet of 7 new CF-31mks, they were shipped with Windows7x32, and another person at my department wiped them and upgraded them to Windows10x64. He then went on vacation, and left me to work on them.

I'm working with Panasonic Technical Support, and the issue I'll described has been escalated to a regional technical service manager, but that was a week...

Hello all:

I have two CF-54 toughbooks that I need to fit with 7355 Air card. I have them installed in the toughbook, and after some google searching I found that the password for the optional kit configuration in the bios is 'toughbook'. But it is asking for a WAN ID. Now, I have seen from my google searches that some people have said to change the FF to 04 or even 08, but neither of these work.

I have windows 10 on the laptop. I cannot see the device in windows device manager, and I...

Hello Toughbook gurus out there, I am in need of expertise please and thank you.

I have a new to me CF-53AAGZX1M that was sold as having Bluetooth, however upon receiving it bt connectivity did not appear in BIOS.

After a bunch of driver updates etc bt then showed in device manager as working (Toshiba RFCOMM) however I could not turn it on in Bluetooth Manager (Bluetooth Function Disable - Please plug in the bluetooth device) did not appear in the Wireless Switch Utility and I couldn't...

I just purchased a little Fujitsu Q550 atom slate pc, and it has an empty MPCIE slot inside (for a wwan card). I want to know if I can use it for GPS as follows....

Shawn had pointed me to a ublox7 usb mini gps dongle (aka vk172), and I ended up not using it, since I already had a ublox 6 and ttl converter. I also wasn't sure if it would work with s&t since it outputs usb from the ublox chip directly and not uart?

So, will the VK-172 gps work with Streets and Trips?
Can I use that gps...
