I wonder why this thread was closed:

CF-53 mk3 WWAN question
I've been researching this topic for the last few days, and my efforts seem to lead to this forum...
I have a CF-53 mk3. I successfully installed the Fingerprint reader from a pulled unit; works great.
I have recently acquired at MC7355 Gobi 5000 card and have an active Verizon SIM card.... Just need the last few steps to get this active. Unfortunately, I can't be without the laptop for any time, so I need to get this last step for the WWAN card done locally...
Any help is much...

SSD Options for IDE/PATA Only Systems Such as CF-51
We've been talking about SSD options for the IDE/PATA CF-51 here and I thought it would be better to start a dedicated thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/pan...ti-video-sub-question-wifi-2.html#post9010618
I mentioned using a Compact Flash (CF) to 2.5" IDE adapter such as this one that accepts two CF cards:...

New CF-30 Owner... well almost!
Hello everyone. I didn't see an introduction thread so I apologize if this is in the wrong place. I just ordered a CF-30 from BobJohnson.com. I haven't received it yet but it should be here Thursday. I wanted a Toughbook for personal use with my automobiles and such. I've always been impressed with how well they are built. I use a CF-53 on my job and it has held up very well.
Just wanted to say hi and thanks for what looks like a very informative site.

CF-51 CPU upgrading
The processors in the CF-51s are definitely upgradeable. I recently upgraded one of my CF-51 MK3s to a T7500 processor. I will give more details later. I am in the process of going back home and moving from one state to another.

New CF-18 Model number
So I got a new to me CF-18MK4 today in the mail.
Had no HD/caddy (no big deal, I have another MK4 and an MK1).
The model is CF-18KDH77VM.
77 is not in the 'special' model list.
There is nothing special, 1 GB ram, digitizer, Intel 2915ABG wifi, no GPS, no WWAN or carrier board, no bluetooth, standard keyboard.
The only different thing is minor. The strap is on the HD/Batery end, not the back.

Okay.... Here it is! I was debating starting this thread the other day but now that someone has specifically asked for it.... I decided to go ahead and start one.
This thread is for general discussion and light problems/comments/questions. Anything "heavy-duty" should probably have its own thread started to make the search function a little easier.
So.... I'll start it off! My CF-30 (which I love!) is a model CF-30CCS92BM. It is pretty much where I want it... A 1.66Ghz duo-core processor...

CF-19CHBAXBE
Hi All
This will be my first ever post on any site so bear with me please.
I have had this Toughbook few a years, I believe it to be a mk1 touchscreen with xp pro. I brought it second hand all set up and every thing working. But the hard drive has finally packed up. I brought a recovery disc as I never had any backup discs with it. I fitted the new hard drive, put the disc in and all seem to go as planned, but the touch screen does not work ?. Any ideas please.

Gobi 2000 Panasonic VID/PID
Hello,
I am trying for some time to figure out which one is the OEM Panasonic Gobi 2000. Some sellers have the OEM one but in reality is HP or Fujitsu.
For Gobi 1000 the Panasonic VID/PID is 0x04da/0x250d.
I have a Gobi 2000 with VID/PID 0x05c6/0x9205 but not sure if it is the Panasonic OEM one.
If someone can post a "lsusb" from Linux would be perfect. In Win I don't know how to check it exactly, it was in Device Manager somewhere under the serial port if I remember correctly.
Best Regards

CF-30 SATA 1.5 Link?
Hello,
I cannot find anything related to the issue in the subject. If it is already covered please share the link.
Issue is that smartctl in Linux reports the SATA Link at 1.5Gb/s instead of 3Gb/s.
I saw the issue on CF30 mk1 and mk3. For mk1 I could understand it because it is old hardware but for mk3 should be 3Gb/s.
SSD is OCZ Vertex 3 for mk3 and Intel 535 for mk1. The mk3 is running in native mode. For mk1 it cannot be set so I suppose it is in "compatible" mode.
smartctl -a /dev/sda...

CF-30 Mk3 BIOS and Embedded Controller source?
When searched for CF-30 BIOS and Embedded Controller files, the Panasonic Download Support site (both Panasonic.com and also pc-dl.Panasonic.co.jp/dl) lists ONLY those for the C/D Mk1 models (and even then only for the XP Downgrade versions): specifically offering only BIOS V1.00L20 and EC V1.00L17.
However, the first screen of the actual BIOS of a MK3 (CF-30Kxxxxx2M with a VISTA COA) lists it's BIOS as V3.00L20 and EC as V3.00L16. Likewise, a CF-30Kxxxxx2B with a Win7 COA lists it's...
