Panasonic Toughbook CF31 MK5 Linux Guide

Recently I received my beautiful new CF31-13111CM, courtesy ebay sniping. Upon installing the latest long term support (LTS) version of Ubuntu Linux, there were a few issues to resolve.

Works out of the box:
Keyboard
Sound (including Fn-keys)
CD/DVD Drive
SD card
Bluetooth
Wifi
USB
Suspend
CPU fan

Detected but not tested:
WWAN
Fingerprint sensor

Works after some modifications:

hard drive lock

I have an old cf28 I am attempting to resurrect ,I have the bios password but I can not find the hdd unlock.

I have a newer cf 19 and when I go into the bios settings there is a line for the HDD lock,WHERE can I find this on the cf28?

Are my CF-53 idle and load temps ok?

Hi Folks!!

I picked up a seemingly little used Toughbook CF-53 on eBay these days.
In toto I'm very happy with this machine, having switched from a t61p, which is quite a different beast in many regards.

This machine has the i5-3340M and I've upgraded the RAM to 16GB. The standard 5400 Hitachi HDD is still in place. I've also upgraded the wifi to an AC 7260.

The one thing that bugs me is the CPU temps I'm seeing. I'm getting light use/idle temps at normal room temps between 50 and 60...

Are my CF-53 idle and load temps ok?

I figured we would have some fun and post some speed tests on some SSD's we have in our Toughbooks to compare all in one thread. This isn't a install guide or a tweak guide. Just posting what we are using and what we got for results.


To keep this even we will need to use this software.

CF-52 WiFi BIOS whitelist

Hello,

I've been reading these forums for a while trying to get around the wifi whitelist on my CF-52, but at this point I seem to be stuck. A few details:

1) I have a CF-52 that was shipped with wifi disabled and no wifi card included.

2) I have a Gigabyte wifi card that works fine, but the pin 20 trick will not enable the card on the CF-52, nor will plugging in the card after booting

3) I've followed instructions referred to in these forums using "Andy's Tool" to modify the...

I have a webcam with 6pin cable from another computer, and would like to see if it works in CF-31 mk1. Does the keyboard have double-sided tape or another means of getting it loose to look for 6-pin header? Or does anyone already know if there is a header that can be used for this purpose under the keyboard?

Finally getting one. Came across one on Ebay for a decent price. A$610 was the final price. It's supposed to be a VGC. THere is another FZ-A1 currently on Ebay Australia with a $1200 price.

I haven't seen one in person yet, but I want it instead of a CF18/19 style notebook PC to take in my work bag.

I have zero idea of what options can be got for it in terms of expanding memory, etc. I don't know if they have any restrictions on what mobile networks they can connect to, but I do believe...

I work in sites often at the end of construction and theft is high in these sites. Want a cable that clamps onto a surface like counter or pole or something sturdy. If it has a alarm that is even better.

Hi everyone,

I've recently purchased a factory refurbished C1, C1ADACZGM (from buytough), which to my surprise looks 99% as new;

The good:
- as per the BIOS, came with only 120 hrs.
- the battery seems to have no degradation (42180 mWh)
- XP Tablet was preinstalled on the HDD, ready to config
- Win7 Pro 32bit Recovery DVD included
- stylus included
- good to very good heat management
- Core i5 standard voltage
- really light (prev. owned Thinkpad X100e, X120e)
- this thing+SSD is FAST...

CF30 Mk1 XP to Win7 - advice for non techy pig

Hi all,

I have a CF30 Mk2 touchscreen and would like to upgrade to Win7. The toughbook was originally Vista (CoA sticker on bottom) but was bought with XP installed. I have an XP disc but no Vista disc.
Is it as simple as updating BIOS back to Vista and then clean installing Win7 from a disc, and then installing whichever drivers needed? Or do i have to update BIOS, then clean re-install Vista from a recovery disc before clean installing Win7? If so can anyone point me to where i can...

I've been fiddling with my Wifi adapter, because I was getting might tired of needing to hard reset the adapter (using the left hand side switch) every time I resume from suspend or hibernation. :vbmad:

Just tried a Centrino 6235, which was plug and play in terms of wifi, all up and running immediately. (Didn't even have to change the driver that was already installed.) Except one small thing... my bluetooth is gone. I know that BT is fully functional on this card, but I appear to be unable...

Hello to all. My first post and my first Toughbook. It is a gift and had Windows 8.1 loaded when I received it a few days ago. The model is CF-29NQQGFBM.
I am having some challenges locating the proper drivers at Panasonic (or any of the other recommended sites) due to the newer OS. I have no sound. I probably also have no video and no hotkeys?
I have 3 alerts in Device Manager. Properties for each indicate "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)"

replace dc charging socket on cf-30 or rebend pins to pinch bullet connector?

I am wondering if the strain on the power cord is causing the shield fingers to stretch and causing the bullet connector to loose intermittent connectivity? If I remove the keyboard can I see this module and re-pinch the shield connector on the dc charge port? or do I need to order a module to replace it? I guess if it becomes a problem is glue on some file to increase the thickness of the bullet connector.

Anyone checked this out? $10/GB and they refund you for what you do not use. They have just announced a tablet only service.

Google's Project Fi combines Sprint, T-Mobile, and Wi-Fi into a virtual network with better coverage than any one of the three has individually, but it fails to become a broadly viable wireless carrier.

I wonder if this will work with the GOBI?
