I have used Toughbooks on and off now for years. But the last fully "Ruggedized" one I owned, was probably a CF-27. In fact, it was owning a CF-72 that gave me the laptop modding bug. Over the years I have owned several CF-25, CF-27, CF-71 (my first ever Toughbook), and multiple CF-72s.

My boss has the bug too. He owns a handful of CF-28's, a CF-29, and a CF-52. Between us, there was always at least one Toughbook torn apart on a desk somewhere.

I created a new acct on here because it looks like there's alot of smart people in here and alot of people have had experience with CF-31's. I've asked everyone around me including vendors and we still can't figure out what's going on. Here's our issue:

I've recently purchased a factory refurbished C1, C1ADACZGM (from buytough), which to my surprise looks 99% as new;

The good:
- as per the BIOS, came with only 120 hrs.
- the battery seems to have no degradation (42180 mWh)
- XP Tablet was preinstalled on the HDD, ready to config
- Win7 Pro 32bit Recovery DVD included
- stylus included
- good to very good heat management
- Core i5 standard voltage
- really light (prev. owned Thinkpad X100e, X120e)
- this thing+SSD is FAST...

Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 on a Toughbook CF-52

Hello,

Has anyone used Windows 8 on a Toughbook CF-52? I know it comes pre-installed with a Windows 7 OS, but I wonder is it worth upgrading to 8.1. I'm still a Windows 7 user, and have been for sometime. Please any input would be helpful!

My main concerns are:

1. Is it better for business?

2. Can I install Legacy applications?

3. What is all the fuss about the Start Menu?

Help with CF-52 MK5 (?) Grey LCD with Vertical Lines

Where I work has ONE CF-52, powers on and you can use VGA out to monitor but the LCD on the unit is lit and grey with vertical lines.
I'm thinking the LCD is shot, any ideas?

Hi
I have been playing with the Windows 8 clean install for days now. so far 99% of the drivers load on install and I can add Touchpad and Touchscreen 64 bit drivers from the CF-31 the newmisc and the hotkey drivers work fine. The hotkey appendix works too. looks like a bunch of stuff for VISTA and Windows 7 is not needed in windows 8 so that gave me hope for running the computer in 64 bit mode. Should I even care about running 64bit windows? seems like that is the direction everything is...

I want to install xp on a CF-T8,
the launch of the XP installation, I press F6 to install the drivers from the hard disk ahci but every time I have a error 1447 in the Txtsetup.oem file and the drivers can not be installed,
I use a USB key with the xp setup
and an external floppy drive to install the drivers ahci
I downloaded the drivers on the Panasonic site but it does not work,

is that someone can help me ??

Fuse replacement CF31 with webcam

I mentioned in another thread my idea to use a webcam for replacing SMD's..
I got a used Microsoft Lifecam Studio..1080p HD sensor..8mp interpolated images
The Studio is also very good in low light and has a tripod mount.
The fuses are 1/8" by 1/16". I plan on piggybacking the new on top of the blown ones.

The cam came in and works really good connected to my CF52 with WUXGA.
I don't think the magnification is high enough at the distance I need to use the soldering pen.
So I tried some...

Hi all. Ok I have been researching this a lot. The official release is July 29, 2015. The bad news first, Vista wont work.

Now the good news most versions of Win 7 Sp1 and Win 8 will upgrade to Win 10 and be free for life!!! You will get KEY and ISO file, in case you need to do clean install. You cannot reuse Win 7/8 key, it will be tied to the Win 10 install. And free upgrade for one year after that date, till July...

Will Windows 10 work on my Toughbook?? :)

Hello,

I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-74 and I plan on replacing my hard drive. I currently am running a 80GB SATA Hard Drive. I am looking for as much space as possible because I have a lot of files. Does anyone know if there is a Hard Drive Capacity Limit or Cap for the Toughbook CF-74?? Any information would be really helpful!

I know the CF-U1 doesn't get a lot of love around here because, well, it's a pretty mediocre computer. But I do have one and was excited to try windows 10 because windows 7 is pretty unusable on such a small touchscreen. The good news is, I haven't run into a single problem. I did not perform a clean install on this trial. MS changed the video driver during the install. I installed the previous driver and the brightness does work now. However the screen pop up is not working anymore. I will get it working when time allows and post the steps.

First, what do you use to clean the screen with? Being in an automotive shop environment, the touch screen gets semi dirty. I am leery of windex etc. but water won't do anything to oily, greasy spots but smear.

Second, what is the sensor under the right hinge cover? I asked the seller the same question, he said "there is no sensor under the hinge cover". Well, yeah there is. I took the covers off to tighten the hinges a bit. It's under the tiny hole and looks almost like a camera lens, even...

Finally took the plunge, thought nothing to loose, Win 10 on a Cf 18 N, that the update icon said can not update to Win 10????

Kept saying that Intel Mobile Graphics card 910 GSM and 915 GSM where not compatible.

Well I tried last 2 days to get my TWO (2) CF 18 N models up with Win 10 , or I was going to sell them and get 2 CF 19s.

Helps if you have win 10 upgrade icon in taskbar.

I had originally installed Win 7 Pro N,........ European version without media player programs.

Okay.... Here it is! I was debating starting this thread the other day but now that someone has specifically asked for it.... I decided to go ahead and start one.

This thread is for general discussion and light problems/comments/questions. Anything "heavy-duty" should probably have its own thread started to make the search function a little easier.

So.... I'll start it off! My CF-30 (which I love!) is a model CF-30CCS92BM. It is pretty much where I want it... A 1.66Ghz duo-core processor...
